On October 25, SK Hynix announced today that it had recently developed the industry‘s first DDR5 6400 Mbps 32GB UDIMM (bufferless dual in-line memory module) and SODIMM (small dual in-line memory module), and provided samples to customers. UDIMM is the general name of memory modules used in PC, and SODIMM is the super small memory module used in PC.
SK Hynix said that the DDR5 6400Mbps module product developed by the company is the fastest DDR5 product for PC and client. The 6400Mbps speed can transmit about 10 full HD movies (5GB) in one second.
This product uses a new device called CKD (Clock Driver) to run more stably during high-speed data processing. SK Hynix took the lead in equipping CKD in the industry and providing samples to the customer PC SoC (system level chip) company for system evaluation.
In August and September of this year, SK Hynix also completed the customer certification of DDR5 module products with the fourth generation (1a) micro processing of 10nm.
SK Hynix plans to quickly complete large-scale customer certification and start mass production in the future to occupy the DDR5 market. DDR5 products replace existing DRAM products with large capacity and high-performance specifications, and are expected to become the main products in the market soon. In the near future, it will be compatible with new CPU and other chipsets, and support the latest computing systems.
SK Hynix said, "According to the prediction of many market research institutions, the share of DDR5 in the entire DRAM market is expected to increase significantly to about 20% next year and reach about 40% in 2025. Through close cooperation with global customers, based on DDR5, we plan to target the PC market and high-end server market."
IT Home learned that in the first half of next year, SK Hynix also plans to launch a number of DDR5 products based on the 10th nanometer fifth generation (1b) micro processing, and DRAM using 1b technology plans to actively use extreme ultraviolet (EUV) technology.
