Recently, the official website of Fuji Film Co., Ltd. in Japan showed that it will acquire 100% equity of CMC Materials KMG Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "KMG"), a group enterprise under semiconductor material manufacturer Entegris that carries out semiconductor process chemistry (HPPC) business, with a transaction amount of 700 million US dollars (approximately RMB 4.871 billion).
Semiconductor process chemicals are the core products in semiconductor processes, mainly used for the removal of foreign objects in semiconductor cleaning and drying processes, as well as the removal of metals and fats in etching processes. At present, the improvement of high-performance semiconductors is continuously driving the development of miniaturization and multi-layer semiconductors, resulting in increasingly complex manufacturing processes.
Data shows that Fuji film has a wide range of products, covering the pre and post process of semiconductor technology, such as photoresist, photolithography materials, CMP slurry, CMP post cleaner, film process precursor, polyimide and Wave Control Mosaic (WCM).
KMG, a subsidiary of Entegris Group, operates a semiconductor process chemical business worldwide. It has established production bases in seven locations including the United States, France, Italy, and Singapore, manufacturing high-purity sulfuric acid, hydrogen peroxide, ammonium hydroxide, isopropanol (IPA), and hydrofluoric acid semiconductor process chemicals, and supplying them to major semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.
Fuji Film stated that by acquiring relevant business entities under Entegris, it will expand its product portfolio, strengthen its ability to provide advice to customers, build a stronger global manufacturing system, and further accelerate the growth rate of its electronic materials business.
In addition, this acquisition will also provide Fuji Film with approximately 560 world-class talents distributed in 12 other factories, including seven manufacturing bases in the United States, Europe, and Singapore. One of them will be Fuji Film‘s first electronic material manufacturing base in Southeast Asia.
This also means that by acquiring KMG, Fuji Film not only expands its manufacturing bases in Europe and the United States, but also will acquire Southeast Asian manufacturing bases for the first time in the semiconductor materials field, creating a more robust manufacturing system.
