Interview with NXP:What Revolution Will Smart Home Bring?

Time:2023-09-12 Views:1591
By 2023, approximately 64 million households in the United States are actively using smart home devices. It is expected that this number will grow at an annual rate of 10.2%, and the future of smart homes is bright. In order to learn more about Future Home, TomorrowsWorldToday.com interviewed Ron Martino, Executive Vice President of Global Sales at NXP Semiconductor, and Maulin Patel, Vice President of Systems and Applications Engineering.
TWT: In the past decade or so, the term "smart home" has become a catchphrase that encompasses everything. How do you define what a smart home is and what it looks like?
Ron Martino: Smart homes use technology to do meaningful things in your life, and the meaningful things in life vary from person to person. It can help your family improve energy efficiency and save money by cutting water and electricity bills, and can make your family safer by predicting potentially harmful situations and automatically addressing them.
TWT: What role does Enzipu Semiconductor play in creating smart home technology?
RM: The semiconductors manufactured by NXP can be used for many different applications, including computing, sensing, execution, and connectivity. Connecting products involves all electronic devices in the home, such as thermostats, HVAC systems, and entertainment systems.
TWT: Some people have security concerns about bringing intelligent technology into their homes. What do you want to say to those who may not be familiar with this technology?
RM: Enzipu is a leader in payment transactions, government documents, and security protection, and has been implemented globally. Allow you to conduct transactions through your mobile phone and apply financial grade security technology to your home in a very secure manner, such as smart door locks.
Our leading position in security technology can minimize the risk of someone attempting to harm you or steal your personal property. We possess electronic intellectual property and knowledge, which helps to make our devices the safest in the world.
TWT: Matter is an open source connectivity standard that allows most smart devices to communicate with each other locally, regardless of who manufactured the device. Can you elaborate on how Enzipu helped define this technology and what role Matter will play in the future of smart homes?
Maurin Patel (MP): We are all working hard to solve integration issues because there are different device ecosystems in smart homes. By influencing some CSS standards and working committees, we ensure that the new specifications and interoperability that must be followed by the company‘s equipment are affected. Enzipu also utilizes our safety knowledge to help define safety standards to identify the effectiveness and safety of these devices.
As an active participant in the alliance, NXP has certified specific platforms where we can showcase integration with any of our devices. These devices are certified by Matter and can be brought into any home or workplace - our goal is seamless integration with the Matter ecosystem. Enzipu has taken on the heavy burden of technological challenges, making the devices of end users simpler.
TWT: At TomorrowsWorldToday.com, we are passionate about reporting on innovations that make the world more sustainable. Can you share with us some ways to make houses more sustainable and energy-efficient?
RM: The technology we use involves many different aspects of sustainable development. Now, technology can turn off lights when they shouldn‘t be on. Smart home technology can also provide you with detailed information about home energy usage to extend the lifespan of the battery system, which may start up in the event of a power outage. Understanding how your family uses energy can also help you reduce bills.
MP: One interesting thing we are currently researching is electric vehicles. Through working with some of our major customers and industry influencers, we have found that in the event of an energy crisis or house power outage, electric vehicles can use the stored energy to deliver it to homes. Through smart homes, we can also determine which parts of the home to send energy to so that important items can receive electricity. This can optimize the energy use in your home.
TWT: When you hear the term "ultra wideband technology", you usually think of telephone service. How does Enzipu apply this technology to households?
RM: Ultra wideband technology is currently attempting to access and interact with cars in the cellular field, such as reducing the security threat of people breaking into your car. This technology can determine who you are and where you are within a range of 10 centi  meters. It can also detect the presence of individuals, animals, or humans without a camera.
End consumers and users may be interested in many different applications, and NXP is looking for these different use cases. There are no intrusive or privacy issues, and you can do this with very precise knowledge - you can interact with your home and make it interact with you in a very exciting way, making your time at home even better.
TWT: Do you want to see the creation of smart home technology that does not yet exist?
MP: One thing that interests me is how we can utilize more energy from plants and grasslands. It would be cool if it could be used as a green initiative outside of the home. Everyone has plants, and I believe we can work together to innovate and use this energy in our homes.
RM: I am a dog lover. Today, you can know the location of dogs in the house, but I think it may be easier to implement these types of functions in your busy life.
TWT: Do you have any final thoughts on the future of smart homes?
RM: One of my great passions is to have elderly relatives and family members live in their own homes to extend their quality of life. By using smart home technology, they still have functions that cannot be possessed due to the impact of aging. Improving people‘s quality of life, personal health, or aging population is the most influential thing for many of us, as our aging population leads to an increase in demand, which is becoming more important.
For semiconductors, this is an exciting era - their importance and use in various aspects of our lives have become very important, and it is a pleasure to study technologies that can bring about such changes every day.
