On December 28th, according to foreign media reports, 12 Japanese companies have established the Automotive Advanced SoC Research Center (ASRA) to jointly develop high-performance digital semiconductors (system level chips, SoCs) for automobiles.
These 12 companies include 5 automobile manufacturers (Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota), 2 electronic component manufacturers (Nippon Electric, Panasonic Automotive Systems), and 5 semiconductor companies (Cadence Design Systems Japan, Mirise Technologies, Renesas Electronics, Socionex, and Synopsys Japan).
Among them, Keiji Yamamoto, a senior researcher at Toyota Motor Company, was appointed as the chairman of ASRA, and Nobuaki Kawahara, a senior advisor at Nippon Electric Equipment Company, was appointed as the executive director.
ASRA will use chip technology (also known as "small chips") to develop automotive SoCs, in order to install SoCs in mass-produced cars starting from 2030.
