Input output relationship and circuit application diagram of voltage follower

Time:2024-03-11 Views:263
The application of voltage follower
A Voltage Follower is a type of circuit whose output voltage almost completely replicates the input voltage, but has higher input impedance and lower output impedance to maintain signal stability and driving capability. Therefore, the input-output relationship of the voltage follower can be described using the following simple equation:
Output voltage (Vout) ≈ Input voltage (Vin)
This indicates that in a voltage follower, the output voltage is roughly equal to the input voltage, but may vary slightly considering factors such as output impedance. Basically, the function of a voltage follower is to amplify the input voltage and maintain that the output voltage is roughly the same as the input voltage, while providing high input impedance and appropriate output impedance.
The input and output characteristics of the voltage follower are as follows:
Input characteristics:
High input impedance: The input resistance of the voltage follower is very high, usually at the megaohm level, which means that the input circuit consumes almost no current from the input signal, thus not affecting the signal source.
Low input bias current: The input of the voltage follower is extremely sensitive, and the input bias current is very low, almost negligible.
Input voltage following: The output voltage is almost identical to the input voltage, with only slight voltage attenuation and delay.
Output characteristics:
The output voltage is basically the same as the input voltage: the output voltage of the voltage follower almost completely replicates the input voltage without changing its amplitude or polarity.
High output impedance: Although the output voltage is the same as the input voltage, the voltage follower provides a relatively high output impedance to maintain output stability and drive the load.
High common mode rejection ratio: The voltage follower can effectively suppress common mode interference, maintaining output stability and accuracy.
Voltage followers are widely used in electronic devices, whose main function is to maintain signal stability and amplify signals. The following are its main applications:
    1. Signal amplifier
The voltage follower can serve as a signal amplifier to amplify the input signal for further processing. For example, it can be used in areas such as audio amplifiers, video amplifiers, and circuit controllers.
    2. Voltage regulator
A voltage follower can be used as a voltage regulator to maintain the stability of the output voltage. For example, it can be used in areas such as DC power supplies, battery chargers, and LED drives.
    3. Signal buffer
The voltage follower can be used as a signal buffer to avoid signal loss and distortion. For example, it can be used for sensor signal amplification and signal line drivers.
    4. Industrial controller
Voltage followers can be used in industrial controllers to maintain the stability of output signals and control the operation of industrial equipment. For example, it can be used in areas such as PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and PID (Proportional Integral Differential) controllers.
