Nine common types of power amplifier ics and their respective characteristics

Time:2024-06-24 Views:8
Do you know what are the common types of power amplifier ics? What are their characteristics? Today, I will talk to you in detail.
1, Class A power amplifier, also known as class A power amplifier
Refers to the whole period of the signal (positive and negative two and a half cycles of the sine wave), any power output component of the amplifier will not appear current cut-off (that is, stop output) a class of amplifiers.
The biggest disadvantage of Class A power amplifier is low efficiency, because there is still a full current inflow when there is no signal, and the electric energy is all turned into high heat. When the signal level is increased, some power can enter the load, but much is still converted to heat.
2, Class B power amplifier, also known as class B power amplifier
It refers to a class of amplifiers in which the positive and negative half cycles of a sinusoidal signal are respectively amplified by the two "arms" of the push-pull output stage in turn, and the conduction time of each "arm" is half a cycle of the signal.
3, Class AB power amplifier, also known as class AB power amplifier
Class A and Class B amplifiers are between class A and Class B, and the conduction time of each "arm" of push-pull amplification is greater than half a cycle of the signal and less than one cycle.
It is characterized by high distortion when the signal is very low, so crossover distortion makes the sound rough. Class B amplifiers have an average efficiency of about 75% and produce less heat than Class A machines, allowing for the use of smaller radiators.
4. Class C power amplifier
This kind of power amplifier is less heard, because it is a very high distortion power amplifier, only suitable for communication purposes. The output efficiency of Class C machines is extremely high, but it is not suitable for HI-FI amplification.
5, Class D power amplifier, also known as Class D power amplifier or digital power amplifier
Its working principle is based on switching transistors, which can be fully switched on or completely cut off in a very short time. The two transistors do not switch on at the same time, so very little heat is generated.
The advantages of Class D amplifier amplification are the highest efficiency, the power supply can be reduced, almost no heat generation, so there is no need for large radiators, the body volume and weight are significantly reduced, theoretically low distortion, good linearity. However, this kind of power amplifier work is complex, and the increased line itself is inevitably biased, so there are few really successful products, and the price is not cheap.
6. Class E power amplifier
Class E power amplifier (power amplifier) is a kind of high-efficiency switching power amplifier, and the polar coordinate transmitter based on Class E power amplifier can improve the inefficient performance of traditional transmitters.
7. Class F power amplifier
Class F RF power amplifier is a new type of high efficiency amplifier, the theoretical efficiency can reach 100%, has a broad development prospect in the field of mobile communication. Class F power amplifier is through the output matching network with harmonic oscillation circuit line drain waveform, even harmonic short circuit and odd harmonic open circuit in the load to achieve efficiency and output power together.
8, K class power amplifier
It is an integrated form, that is, to do bootstrap and power amplifier together, this power amplifier can become, such as class AB, class D and so on, depending on the need.
9, H class power amplifier
It is a special application, mainly that the power supply can maintain a high voltage with the output change, which is generally used in automobiles, but after the class D power amplifier is released, it is not seen much.
About the type of power amplifier IC topic, today to say here, in fact, in addition to the above nine kinds of power amplifier, there are T class, G class, DT class, but too small, the author will not say more.
